Crowns
A crown completely covers a weak tooth above the gum line and protects it.
Crowns are made of gold, or porcelain with metal inside for strength, and appearance of a perfect tooth. You will normally be given a local anaesthetic to numb the area then shape the tooth so that with the crown will be the same shape as a normal tooth.
Veneers
A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail.
Sometimes a natural colour ‘composite’ material is used instead of porcelain.
A bridge is formed to the teeth on either side with a new tooth is formed between. This can be either by crowns on the supporting teeth, or metal wings.
